“I RECOMMEND MIKE KELLY AS A PERSONAL TRAINER

I have been working out at a gym consistently for about 12 years now. As a young man of 19 I was introduced to weight lifting briefly and for various reasons did not pursue it. Roughly 12 years later I followed an excellent YMCA conditioning program for a couple of years and stopped. At the age of 50, largely at the suggestion of my son, we both got serious. Then the  whole family got involved. Today, my daughter and I remain steady gym rats.  For the first 5 years I worked out 3 to 4 times a week with a variety of personal trainers; they were all quite expert in their field, a couple quite exceptional at their craft. Since that time I have continued on my own, researching information, developing further and making consistent, steady and measureable improvements in my strength and fitness.

All this is to establish that I feel confident in saying that when it comes to working out at a gym, and evaluating personal training and trainers, well? I know what good is.

My mother  is over 90, lives in Ottawa on her own,  and through a variety of issues mainly I believe,  centering on poor nutrition, hydration, and no exercise, she ended up in twice in hospital  the past  three or four years. I concluded she needed supervised exercise. Load bearing exercise. Not walking down the street, or gentle calisthenics, but a properly assessed and managed approach to fitness a  comprehensive weight training based program.

The doctors wanted to put her in a home. Imagine.

Where to find a personal trainer and get my mum exercising?  Not easy. As I no longer live in Ottawa, I searched through my gym contacts in Toronto for recommendations for personal trainers in Ottawa. Came up blank. I called most of the gyms in the area, got some fairly stout sales pitches. Came up empty. Then through Google I came up with an email address for a Mike Kelly, PTS, among other names; Mike Kelly emailed me back.

Mike Kelly seemed like the real deal. Certainly he talked the talk over the internet. So I travelled up to Ottawa to meet him. He seemed to walk the talk. There remained two hurdles: could I convince my mother to start a fitness program with Mike, and would he live up to my expectations? You will be happy to hear: Yes! on both counts.

After the first six months, my mother continues to enjoy her workouts, shows dramatic strength improvement, and (this is the real test of a personal trainer)  has not gotten hurt, and does not want to stop exercising. You can be sure in fact that Mike has exceeded my expectations, and has shown an enormous reserve of patience with his clients.

I recommend Mike Kelly to anyone seriously interested in establishing, improving or developing their fitness. Mike Kelly is the real deal.

Sincerely,”
