This course is accredited by various fitness organizations, as shown on the left. Additionally, the various organizations, offer a varying number of CEC's for this course, e.g., BCRPA & SPRA both offer 8 CEC's, whereas canfitpro offers 4 CEC's and AFLCA offers 3 CEC's etc. NOTE: Our course registration page references a generic 4 CEC's, but again, the organization you'll be filing this course with, could vary that number up or down. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact us directly.
Health and Fitness professionals spend a lot of time trying to convince clients, that exercise is fun. This can be a losing battle that results in, inconsistent clients who feel frustrated with both themselves and their health/fitness professional. The reality is most people don't like exercise (see how science demonstrates this). This lack of empathy, makes it more difficult to work with adults who have started the slow physical decline that for many, starts in their early 30's. Learn the psychology and REAL life experience of how to better understand your clients and help them achieve more sustainable health/fitness. This interactive lecture/ workshop session will teach concepts that are even more relevant in our new COVID-19 reality.
To Register, click on "Book Now" or contact Mike Kelly via email at mkelly@wemeanfitness.com NEXT Public Session runs "Live" Virtually via Zoom on Saturday November 30th, 2024 (this is Module 2 which runs from 10:00 am to 4:15 PM EST). NOTE: Module 1 is pre-recorded and will be sent to you prior to the week Module 2 is scheduled to run.
In this Lecture / Workshop:
- Learn the psychology around why most overweight/obese clients do not consistently exercise (& why, most people actually don't like exercise);
- Learn why it’s so difficult to lose excess weight;
- Learn why it’s so difficult to gain muscle (& maintain it).
- Understand why most diets are doomed to fail;
- How to deal with realities of stress;
Learn how to motivate clients and bring them closer to sustainable health/fitness. - Learn how to understand people better
Learn how we create habits (Good & Bad) and what you can do about them (the Bad Ones).
Improve empathy for clients (thus improving the client relationship)
Workshops provided will give you a REAL world edge, in better understanding how to help your clients succeed.Author/Presenter: Mike Kelly, aka the Cynical Trainer and owner of We Mean Fitness, Inc., is a dynamic presenter and motivator with over 40 years of experience in sports and fitness. From Spencer Bachelder, Moat Athletic Performance Coach
"I really enjoyed the course "Why People Hate Exercising - The Psychology, Everyone Needs to Know" taught my Mike Kelly!
Very informative and very well done by Mike. I could tell how passionate he was about all the information he gave. Mike went really into depth on the Psychology side of things and specific things like Stress and Sleep. As a Personal Trainer I’ve used the information taught to gain new clients only days after the course. It helped give me a new perspective on exercise, being able to see exercise from a different view and how I can help my clients and others who hate exercising will continue to help me in the future.
I would encourage any Trainer looking into to take it! Or anyone who hates exercise but knows it’s important!"

"I have never in my life seen instructor so consistently maintain the same energy and positive attitude throughout the whole course of "Why People Hate Exercising - The Psychology Everyone Needs to Know" that I took with MIKE KELLY of We Mean Fitness.
MIKE is patient, humorous, understanding, professional, and has great knowledge about the subject matter. It’s rare to have these qualities all in one instructor.
As a fitness and wellness trainer, I am very happy and satisfied in my decision to attend this course. It was a great experience, and I have learned “A LOT”. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you Mike"

"Mike Kelly's "Why People Hate Exercising - The Psychology, Everyone Needs to Know" is a well laid out and relevant course that I would recommend as a Personal Trainer. This course clearly breaks down the physical and phycological obstacles that every client experiences from a variety of angles. This allows Trainers to better understand client metabolic and mental health, so that we can effectively manage expectations and ensure we successfully overcome hurdles. Mike Kelly is a dynamic presenter who provides many interesting examples and references. These not only bring the course content to life, but also help serve as great conversation and scientific points to engage clients with to entice lifestyle changes. Mike also provided many opportunities for questions and feedback so that I walked away confident with new skills and knowledge that I could immediately apply after the course."

"I recently took Mike Kelly’s fitness psychology course, “Why People Hate Exercising – The Psychology, Everyone Needs to Know”. As I’m currently working towards getting my Physiotherapy degree and have a minor in psychology, I wasn’t exactly sure as to how much I’d learn from this course. Well, let me say, this course was an eye opener! Despite being familiar with some of the psychology terms used in the course, it was their application to exercising that surprised me. You see, for many years, as a former varsity level athlete and now, realively knowledgeable fitness person, I had always felt that I loved doing exercise, although somewhat inconsistent with it over the years (as most people are). The course provides the insight as to how our brain can sometimes work against us, in trying to get fit. Mike’s passion for the topic, knowledge and experience in both the fitness and psych aspects, have changed my opinion of exercising and as a result, given me a new approach as to how I should be tackling exercise, to be more sustainable for the rest of my life. I highly recommend this course, regardless if you are a health/ fitness professional or a layperson looking to better understand exercise. Oh, I can finish by saying, I now, no longer love doing exercise, but fully understand I need to, consistently!"

From Arthur Cuenco, Registered Physiotherapist, ProPhysio, Ottawa, Canada
"As a Registered Physiotherapist of 22 years , I am always looking to find creative ways to help my patients improve their Health and Well Being. So after taking the course "Why I Hate Exercise - The Psychology, Health & Fitness Professionals Need To Know" taught by Mike Kelly of We Mean Fitness, I realized that physical exercise and dedication to the prescription can be difficult to stay consistent with. This course provides 4 CEC (continuing education credits). Physical injuries can arise from trauma, repetitive strain and even sustained posture dysfunctions but there is more than just genetics that play a role. The influence from the environment and external factors as well as the notion of Protective Factors can all impact the overall success of the patient's Health and Well Being. Mike presented his researched data with simplicity, accuracy, and passion which was both validated and practical and this needs to be learnt and experienced in order to find objective ways to create measurable outcomes in the clinic or gym. His "Fit with Five" sheet is a great tool for accountability as well. Thank you again Coach Mike."

“In the limited time available, Mike covered a broad topic around client psychology and the state of fitness today. It boosted my knowledge as a personal trainer and helped in a better awareness of the mindset of prospective and current clients. It also allows me to be a more compassionate motivator that will help in client retention through longer term and more meaningful relationships.
Thank you Mike, for an extremely valuable and engaging presentation.”

From canfitpro Administrator Heather Poole:
"I recently attended Mike’s session “Why I Don’t Like Exercise.” Based on the title this could have been very technical and full of science-heavy content. However, Mike mixed the perfect amount of science based evidence with explanations that were easy to understand for all participants. From Haishu Sun, PTS
"Mike is a very kind trainer who taught me how to better communicate with different types of people. During the course "Why People Hate Exercising", I learned so many things about what makes us all human and in the process, how to better help them with exercise throughout life. What really stood out, was learning how we as humans are very quick to judge people, as it’s how we are wired. This was a powerful lesson. Thank you, Mike"

From Crystal Borutskie:
"I recently attended the "Why I Hate Exercise - The Psychology, Health & Fitness Professionals Need to Know" online seminar with Mike Kelly of We Mean Fitness. The material was quite fascinating in regards to understanding why it's sometimes hard to be consistent in our daily lives. Mike is very knowledge and a great presentor and the course was well organized."

From canfitpro Senior PRO TRAINER Administrator Christen Harvey:
“Mike's session was a great peek into the psychology behind exercise. This is such a huge factor to client's drive and success and Mike was able to help us peek into this complex world of exercise and the brain. It was fascinating and I wished we could have had another 2 hours with him! This education will help me understand more clearly what my clients are experiencing when they approach each and every session. To be able to understand the psychology of what motivates people to move is invaluable and so important! “

From Jordon Lauzon Personal Training Specialist:
“It was an insightful experience attending his presentation "Why I Hate Exercise" at the 2021 Canfitpro Global Conference. He dove deep into the mindset people nowadays and why it's uncommon to have a willingness to exercise in 2021. The way he presented this lecture felt so easy to understand and engaging. I liked how he kept the audience engaged and encouraged the use of the zoom chat. Highly recommend!”

From Sarfaraz Khan Personal Training Specialist:
“In the limited time available, Mike covered a broad topic around client psychology and the state of fitness today. It boosted my knowledge as a personal trainer and helped in a better awareness of the mindset of prospective and current clients. Understanding why people are resistance to positive habit change allows for more effective marketing and messaging content to attract new clients.

The inclusion of Mike’s personal anecdotes and real life experiences, as well as his humour made the session engaging and all around fun to attend. Mike was extremely knowledgeable in the topic and his enthusiasm in his delivery really highlighted his passion. I look forward to seeing more from Mike in the future."

From Brian:
“The presentation was fresh and informative - a pivotal change in thinking for me. I’m glad I attended your session.”

Student Comments:
“Taking the Fascia Movement & Assessment course with Mike Kelly was an eye opener to how the human body should function and move in a correct way. He has a lot of knowledge in the fitness field. He is able to go in depth in terms of how one dysfunctional area of the body can affect the whole body. Mike teaching the course made things really easy to understand. He has worked with people from all kinds of background, starting from elite athletes, amateurs, the average working person and people in the senior home. I will highly recommend anyone looking to better their fitness live to take a course with Mike. I’ve learned so much in a short period of time with Mike. This means more knowledge and a best way of training my clients functionally”

“I recently took canfitpro’s “Fascia , Movement and Assessments” course, which I have to say, was great, covering a lot of interesting and useful information. Mike Kelly, the protrainer, did a great job to make the material easy to understand, also adding in some of his own experiences, using good analogies. Although there was some theory, the bulk of the course was very hands-on, with many postural assessment tools and associated exercises. It will definitely make me a more knowledgeable and better-informed trainer to further help my many clients. I highly recommend this course.”

“I’ve participated in the FMA course which provided me with a good understanding of what fascia is all about as my knowledge of this subject was minimal. The Pro Trainer, Mike Kelly delivered the material by providing descriptive examples of its function, some videos and made us get up from our chairs to perform some of the exercises/assessments. He also took the time to demonstrate how to incorporate assessments in our training program and how to analyse the results. I recommend this course to anyone who wishes to deepen their knowledge on this subject. I enjoyed the course and with this new found knowledge, it will certainly help me be a better Personal Training Specialist.”

“The online Personal Trainer Specialist course was the best learning experience I have ever been a part of due to the fact that Mike Kelly was our teacher. He is one of the best teachers I’ve had over the years and the amount of knowledge he gave in the course was mind blowing. I hope more people are able to learn from him as much as I have.”

Mike tells you what’s going to be on both the theory exam and the practical exam in a concise clear way. I definitely learned a lot not just in learning how to become a personal trainer but in fitness as a whole. I would definitely recommend taking the online course with Mike and to even hire him as a personal trainer in the future.”
